The HealthAchieve Show Management, the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care (CCGHC) are pleased to present the annual Green Health Care Awards at HealthAchieve, November 5, 6 & 7, 2012 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The Green Health Care Awards recognize leadership and excellence in reducing health care’s environmental impact.
Submissions/nominations from Ontario health service providers who are members of the OHA and/or the CCGHC are invited for the following five Green Health Care Award categories:
Energy Efficiency
The Energy Efficiency award recognizes a hospital that has demonstrated a reduction in their environmental impact as a result of energy conservation and demand management, energy efficient technology, or use of alternative energy.
Water Conservation and Protection
The Water Conservation and Protection award recognizes a hospital that has reduced their impact on our water resources through water conservation or pollution prevention measures. In addition to actions to reduce overall water consumption, the Water Conservation and Protection award recognizes efforts to reduce the impact of hospital effluent on our treatment plants, and ultimately prevent hazardous substances from entering our waterways.
Waste Management
The Waste Management award recognizes a hospital that has reduced their environmental impact through waste prevention, reduction, or beneficial treatment. In addition to conventional waste diversion programs, the waste management award recognizes efforts to improve the environmental management of hazardous materials such as mercury, purchase environmentally-preferred materials, find alternative markets or end-uses for waste materials, or reduce the impact of waste through waste processing.
Overall Leadership
The Overall Leadership award recognizes a hospital that has demonstrated a significant organization-wide commitment to environmental sustainability and to reducing environmental impact. The winner of the Overall Leadership award has demonstrated dedication and leadership in multiple environmental areas such as energy, waste, water, pollution prevention, procurement, food services, staff and community engagement.
Individual Leadership
The Individual Leadership award recognizes a hospital employee who has made an outstanding individual contribution to reducing their hospital’s environmental impact and inspiring the hospital to go green.
The submission deadline for the 2012 Green Health Care Award is September 14, 2012.
